Sierra Club Backs County Acquiring Baldwin Beach Land

The Sierra Club has been gearing up for a campaign advocating that the County buy Baldwin Beach and the HC&S land mauka of the beach.  Right now, the County leases Baldwin Beach from Alexander & Baldwin (A&B).

We see the beach eroding at a rapid rate. Already the showers and lifeguard stand have fallen into the ocean.  Thus Maui Sierra Club advocates acquiring the land mauka of Hana Hwy in order to help prevent runoff and erosion as well as plan for the shoreline moving inland.

Serendipitously, A&B  has offered the County the following deal:

A long, slender plot of 4.101acres in A&B Business park where the county can build its facilities + 35.55 acres of Baldwin Beach to Paia Bay for $7,145,582.

  1. I support County acquisition of Baldwin Beach land. Our citizens deserve better than existing conditions.
